Pastor Royce Thompson

Rev. Royce F. Thompson, Sr., was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Gary, IN and is the only child of Freddy B. Ervin and Ethelena. He received his formal education in the Gary Community School Corporation, graduating from Emerson School for the Visual & Performing Arts in 2001. He attended Tennessee State University from 2001 to 2003. Now he is currently at Trinity International University, where he will receive his Bachelors of Arts in Christian Ministries and General Business, continuing on until he receives his doctorate. Pastor Thompson is tremendously blessed to have his loving wife by his side, Tarnishand they have been blessed with five beautiful children; Trinity, Royce Jr., Troy, Ryan, and Regan. Rev. Thompson, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Cato Brooks, Jr., confessed his faith in Christ, at an early age, which is also where his ministry began. His passion for preaching is evident, as he delivers the word of God, with zeal and power.  

Rev. Thompson united with Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church of Gary at early age. Under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Cato Brooks Jr. is where he started his ministry. Rev. Thompson was called to the ministry in October of 2004 and was licensed in June of 2005. In July of 2007, God led Rev. Thompson to join his father-in- law’s church, New Nazareth Baptist Church of Gary. December of the same year, he was ordained and served as the youth pastor until November 2010. In December of the same year, he was called to serve as the Interim Pastor after the late Rev. Dr. Benjamin Holmes. In February of 2011, after much prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit, the New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church after elected Rev. Thompson as the new pastor. 

Rev. Thompson, being one of the youngest pastors in the city, serves as a member of the Baptist Minister's Conference of Gary & Vicinity, Congress of Christian Education President of The Northern Indiana Missionary Baptist Educational District Association, 3 rd Vice President of The Original General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Indiana, a member of The National Baptist Convention USA, Inc., and also a Chaplain for the Gary Police Department.

Under his leadership, in the last 5 years, the church has shown outstanding growth in membership.  In June of 2015, The Anointed Voices church choir, was blessed to record their first album, where Pastor Royce Thompson served as one of the executive producers. Pastor Thompson continues to be humble, as he serves and loves God’s people with renewed purpose and determination.  

Above, all Pastor Thompson is visionary, organizer, and teacher of God's Word. He is dedicated to preaching the gospel, which Jesus and Him crucified, serving the ministry, his congregation, and the community. He is devoted to the ministry, and whatever God has for his life, he is waiting patiently for the Lord’s instructions.

Lady Tarniesha S. Thompson

There was a little baby girl born to the late Pastor Willie V. and Yvonne Nichols on January 6, 1980. Her parents called her their “Sunshine”; however, they named her Tarniesha S. Nichols. She is the youngest of four children; Willie D (Stacee), Terrance T. (Tamika), and Tamika S. (deceased). Tarniesha began her education at Holy Trinity School. She went on to receive her diploma from West Side High School. She continued her education at Rollins College to obtain a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and a minor in Business Administration. She has her Masters in Business Administration specializing in Accounting from Indiana Wesleyan University. She is currently a Middle School teacher at Thea Bowman Leadership Academy. To God be the Glory for allowing her to get thus far.

Tarniesha accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at New Friendship M.B. Church under the pastoralship of the late Rev. Dr. Benjamin J. Holmes, Sr. (also her grandfather). At the age of 11, she joined the New Nazareth M.B. Church along with her family where her father became the pastor.

Over the years, she served and was involved in numerous of ministries. She served as the youth director, Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. Tarniesha love serving God and others.

On October 7, 2006, the Lord made her life complete when she married Rev. Royce F. Thompson, Sr. at New Friendship. She is a loving wife and the mother of five beautiful children; Trinity,Royce Jr., Troy, and Ryan, Regan. She loves spending time with her family as well as playing basketball.

On April 10, 2011, Lady Thompson stood beside her husband, as he accepted his calling to be the Pastor, of the historically proclaimed, New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. There, Lady Thompson is a member of the Women’s Ministry and Anointed Voices. She is Young, Fly and Saved (YFS) youth director. January 2016, Lady Thompson began a new ministry, Women of C.L.A.S.S aging from 23-49. This dynamic God-fearing couple is ready to lead God’s people to greater heights. Being guided by the Holy Spirit, God is ordering their steps day by day.

Lady Thompson is an energetic, caring individual who takes pride in a job well done. Because one day, she wants to hear her Heavenly Father say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of the Lord."
